The
Farside believes that, although it is great to be involved in
worshipping a living God at our celebrations (through song, dance,
drama and other expressions), we are also called to demonstrate
our love for God through participating in social community action.
With the help of the Poole deanery youth work project, we are
developing projects that we hope will make an impact on the communites
of Poole and the surrounding area.
[DETACHED
& OUTREACH]
From early
on, The Farside has been involved in detached work and outreach
projects, including running a summer drop-in café project
in Poole High Street. These were well attended (in large part
due to the free doughnuts) and so we felt that we should develop
these further. In 2005 we purchased a mobile café unit
and have used this for setting up youth outreach activities in
various locations around Poole and Bournemouth, including Kinson,
Turlin Moor, Rossmore and West Howe.
The
café project has now developed into setting up longer-term
cafés that will have outreach workers working alongside
the projects. The first of these is being established at St John’s
Church in Upper Parkstone. An informal drop in facility is open
on a Wednesday evenings and is attracting many young people who
usually hang around the shopping area. If you would like to volunteer
to help in this, please get in touch with Marie
Willis.
[360]
Are you a young
person who cares passionately about poverty, injustice, bullying,
sexual morality, the environment, and seeing Christian values
impact society? Do you want to do something about this? Do you
have thoughts about The Farside and how you would like to see
it develop? Do you want to share these thoughts with others?
If
so, then get involved in the ‘360’ discussion and
action days. Details of these activities will be updated on this
website as they develop, but you can get involved now by contacting
Lisa Ellaway (the
360 Project Leader).
